On April 19th, Fox news is cutting ties with long time 20 year anchor Bill O’Reilly.

According to ABC news, earlier on Wednesday April 19th, Fox News’ parent company, 21st Century Fox announced that “after a thorough and careful review of the allegations, the company and Bill O’Reilly have agreed that Bill O’Reilly will not be returning to the Fox News Channel.”

Allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior prompted FOX to end his program “The O’Reilly Factor” which had a prime time slot of 8:00 pm. The New York Times reported on April 1st that O’Reilly or Fox had paid $13 million to settle five cases against him alleging sexual or other harassment.

O’Reilly recently signed a new multiyear contract worth more than $20 million per year. When Roger Ailes left Fox News last summer, the Murdoch’s, who own Fox News, paid out $40 million, the remainder of his contract.

Talks about O’Reilly’s contract payout have yet to be released. Fox wants the transition to be quick and quiet. Tucker Carlson, who has been around Fox appearing in different network shows like The Five and multiple others has replaced O’Reilly at the 8:00 slot.

This comes as a major loss for Fox News. In the past couple years the network has lost former chairman and CEO Roger Ailes, prime time anchor Megyn Kelly, and now O’Reilly.

“I will always look back on my time at Fox with great pride in the unprecedented success we achieved and with my deepest gratitude to all my dedicated viewers,” O’Reilly said in a statement. “I wish only the best for Fox News Channel.”

English teacher Kyle Hanford is pleased with Fox’s decision to let its controversial anchor go.

“There is no room for that kind of behavior,” he said, “and that fact that he is still getting 20 million dollars is troubling.”
