Though the Willy-lympics lies months in the future, far beyond the grind of our daily lives, the preliminary wheels of the great game-machine have already been set in motion. As of this writing, there are 12 official teams vying for a spot in the competition. Of this group, 6 to 10 will make it, though the criteria for selection are yet to be determined.
The challenges have yet to be released to the general public, but mastermind Cade Zawacki ’15 has stated that “the goal is to have a wide range of challenges,” to “ensure that one team will not have an advantage over the others.” In essence, the challenges will be both mental and physical so as to level out the advantages of certain skillsets.
Perhaps the greatest change this season of Willy-lympics brings to the table is its radically different format. As opposed to last year’s straightforward contests, just getting from one challenge to the next will be a test in itself. From an arbitrary starting line, teams will now be given clues directing them from one place to another, taking them through the challenges along the way. The last team to reach the finish line of the episode will be eliminated, in a similar fashion to CBS’ The Amazing Race.
When all is said and done, beyond “the glory and admiration of the school,” the winning team will receive a “monumental prize” which has yet to be revealed. Soon, everything will come to light, and the games will begin. Stay tuned.
