A surprise every week is keeping cookie lovers on their toes.
Crumbl Cookie is a store that specializes in making uniquely flavored cookies every week. A new Crumbl store opened in West Springfield not too long ago and Williston students are rushing to get a taste of the new cookies every week. But is spending $25 on cookies worth it?
Crumbl opened in 2017 by Jason McGowan and Sawyer Hemsley in Logan, Utah. Their idea of having an open-concept kitchen is what brought Crumbl to life. People loved being able to see what was happening through the cookie-making process. Now Crumbl offers delivery and catering at a lot of their location across America. As of July 2024, there are 1,040 different Crumbl locations.
Ryan Elloras, a junior from New York, loves Crumbl and thinks everyone should try it.
“It’s a good dessert, it tastes good, and all the different cookies and different flavors all taste good,” he said. “Some people think it’s overrated, but I think it’s fine.”
Ryan thinks Crumbl should open a location closer to campus.
“More people order it because DoorDash is expensive and it’s easier to walk into the store,” he said. “Maybe if they had something like dominoes that was closer and people could walk to it, it would be better.”
Catie Putt, a junior, from Norfolk Mass., thinks Crumbl is good, but not worth the hype everyone gives it.
“I only like maybe one or two cookies out of the batch every week, and I think it’s very overrated,” Catie said. “The cookies are undercooked, then if you have a warm cookie next to a cold cookie it messes it up. They are huge, so I can only have a couple bites and I’m done, but they don’t last, so it’s not even worth it.”
One cookie at Crumbl is $5, a 4-pack is $18, a 6-pack is $25, and a dozen is $48.
Catie thinks the Starbucks in Easthampton, which opened around the same time last year, has been way more popular amongst Williston students.
“I think the new Crumbl isn’t as popular as when Starbucks opened because it’s so expensive,” she said. “Starbucks has so many different options, whereas with Crumbl you are stuck.”
Catie prefers another popular cookie brand, Insomnia Cookies, which has a location just up the road in Amherst.
“It’s so good,” she said. “They are smaller but you can get more for the same price. Their double chocolate chip cookie is the best cookie I’ve ever had in my life, and they are homestyle cookies.”
A single cookie at Insomnia is $3.20, a 6-pack is $16.50, and a dozen is $30. Insomnia also offers other desserts like brownies that you can get in your cookie box to make it deluxe. A deluxe 4-pack is $19.50. Insomnia also offers a 4+4 pack for $29.50.
Insomnia was created by Seth Berkowitz in his UPenn dorm room in 2003. They started food truck, and opened their first store in 2006. In 2016m they added vegan cookies to their menu, and they are now a part of their permanent menu.
