On December 5th at 9 a.m, a tragic car accident took the life of Ed Allen, a beloved teacher, coach, and Athletic Director at the Millbrook School. The accident hospitalized both of his daughters. The eldest is three years old and the youngest is one year old.

Mr. Allen unintentionally swerved into oncoming traffic. He was pronounced dead at the scene. As of December 15, 2015, Allen’s youngest daughter is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Ed Allen was cherished by his students, athletes, friends, and family.

The sudden and unexpected news spread devastation and sorrow throughout the Millbrook community. The community, as well as alumni, have come together to mourn and help support Allen’s family. The Millbrook School has established a trust to benefit and support the Allen Family.

Mr. Conroy, Athletic Director, says, “Anytime one of our NEPSAC schools suffers a tragic loss like the loss of Mr. Allen, it impacts our entire prep school community.”

Conroy continues, “Our hearts go out to the Millbrook community, knowing how difficult it is to lose a member of any tight knit prep school community. When Williston suffered the loss of young history teacher/coach Brian Crockett two years ago, we heard from many of our NEPSAC friends within the prep school community.”

As Mr. Allen’s death is tragic and devastating, it is comforting and relieving to know that there are always communities and people who are going to help you get through tough times, no matter how tough they are.

Ed Allen was the coach of the Millbrook Girls’ Varsity Hockey team. The day of Mr. Allen’s death, Williston Girls’ Varsity Hockey team and Millbrook’s girls team were supposed to have a game. The game would have been Williston’s home opener.

Hannah Touzos’ 16, a player of the WGVH team says, “The news was devastating to hear.”

She continues, “I started to realize how lucky and thankful our team should be because many of us know what it feels like to have a faculty member suddenly pass away. Our community will always remember Brian Crocket, just like Millbrook will always remember Ed Allen.”

Moments of silence have been conducted at sporting events, donations to the family have been made, and many other acts of kindness and respect have been shown in honor of Mr. Allen.

Ed Allen was respected and admired by his entire community. His contributions as a teacher, coach, Athletic Director, friend, and father will never be forgotten.

Ed’s funeral took place on December 18th at 11 a.m.
