The Williston Northampton School turned out in droves for the team’s annual “White Out” game on Saturday, and the football team made it worth it.
The Wildcats delivered for the packed crowd on Sept. 21 in a big way, touting the Big Blue of Philips Andover 38-14. The win was thanks to monster performances from post sraduate Jameson Dion at running back and safety , Anthony Oppedisano on both offensive and defensive line, and linebacker Seamus McDermott as well as sophomore Nate Ellis.
The Williston Wildcats are anticipating this season to be one of their best in recent memory, as they have a massive offensive line an abundance of talented skill players, and a dedicated and experienced coaching staff. The coaches are: Head Coach and offensive coordinator Tommy Beaton, defensive coordinator Jayson Leigh, as well as Kyle Farmer and Stephen Hoyt.
The Willistonian caught up with two-time captain and University of Rhode Island-bound senior defensive dnd Rylan Shibley, who explained how this year’s team feels more molded. Coming together in mid-August for pre season benefitted them, he said, helping the team learn about each other on and off the field and become a more cohesive unit.
Rylan said being a two-time captain has helped him grow as a leader, and he told us that his confidence has grown so much more throughout his time at Williston that now he feels he can be a strong role model for underclassmen.
The Willistonian also connected with senior wide receiver Jaxon Axelman, who he told us about the difference between this year and last year’s team, and how the players feel an extra sense of motivation since last year was considered “shaky” by Williston standards. According to Jaxon, the team is very focused and poised to make a run at a bowl game this year.
The Wildcats will look to continue this momentum all the way into this Saturdays (Sept. 28) game, where they will travel to Connecticut to take on Hotchkiss and hopefully make it three in a row.
