What will girls wear to graduation this year?
It’s been a hot topic among senior girls at Williston as the class of 2025 debates whether to wear short or long dresses to graduation.
The decision is far from simple, with many girls considering everything from the style to the fit. While the color is already determined, since graduation dresses must be white, the big question remains: what should the length be? This isn’t just a matter of personal taste; it’s about the overall vibe that each girl wants to convey on their big day.
Senior Gemma Polino believes the length of the dress says a lot about the mood you want to set as you walk across the stage.
“I feel like a short dress is more celebratory. I want to give off the vibes of a party dress—more of a ‘YAY’ than just ‘yay,’” she said.
Gemma feels that long dresses, while beautiful, give off a more formal or even traditional feel.
“Personally, I think it should be a short fun dress because I low-key feel like the long ones are giving Easter brunch vibes, and I want to give more of a ‘Oh, I’m going to the club after,’ you know?” she said.
Ava Howard, another senior, agrees with Gemma on the appeal of shorter dresses, both for practical and aesthetic reasons.
“I’m grossed out at the idea of my dress dragging through wet grass in the morning. Also, long dresses could be too hot for a spring day,” she said.
Ava’s comments highlight how many girls are also thinking about comfort and practicality in addition to style.
But it’s not just about graduation dresses. Many seniors are also shopping for other important events around graduation, like prom, senior dinners, and baccalaureate ceremonies.
The hunt for the perfect dress has become a pressing task. With all of these milestones in mind, many girls are turning to websites like Lucy in the Sky, Princess Polly, Windsor, and other popular online stores to find the dress of their dreams.
These retailers offer a wide range of options, from fun, short dresses to elegant, flowing gowns, giving each senior the freedom to find something that fits their personality and the occasion.
