Grubbs Gallery Welcomes New Exhibit
Enter the Grubbs Gallery this October and you will be immediately transferred into a natural, and simplistic atmosphere.
“I think Dave Gloman’s style is a very successful balance of abstract and formal elements,” says Natania Hume, Williston teacher and curator of the exhibit. “His color sense is outstanding, and the subtlety of his color choices cause one to keep noticing new elements even after looking at one of his works many times,” she said.
“The act of making Art is important to me because it allows me to explore, understand and express my place in the world. I don’t think Art can be qualified as good or bad,” says Gloman. “The kind of work that I respond to moves me on a visceral level. It can’t be explained by conceptual theory or by words. Art is something that feels greater than me.”
Why should we take the time to see art? Because “it is a great opportunity for students at Williston to see professional and gallery-quality art without leaving campus,” says Ms. Hume. Students can visit the art gallery during their free periods, after school, or even in between classes.
Mr. Gloman is currently a professor at Amherst College. All of the art seen in this exhibit was completed this summer. “I only paint outdoors and the landscape changes so much from season to season that I tend to make a body of work for each season,” he explained.
Students can visit the Gallery in the Reed Campus Center all day until 5:00 pm on weekdays and 12:30 pm on weekends.
