H20 Makes You Go

Think. How much water do you drink a day? I bet you do not even know how much you are supposed to be drinking a day do you? Picture this. You’re running down the field, or acting in the play, or even walking to class and you get a cramp in one of your muscles. This is your body tell you that your organs need water to function. Water makes up more than two-thirds of the weight of a human body, and all the cells and organs in your body need water to function.

Have you ever heard of the eight glasses of water a day myth? This so called myth is very much true. New York Times writer Anahad O’Connor wrote in her article on the eight glasses of water a day myth, “The old saw about drinking eight glasses of water a day for overall health is widely considered a myth. But research over the years has suggested that drinking water helps the kidneys clear sodium , urea, and toxins from the body.” So water is basically acting like a dishwasher that cleans your body from any waste you have.

The eight cups of water a day myth is kind of like the myth of an apple a day keeps the doctor away myth. Water helps you balance your fluids, helps your immune system so you can get through a day.

I personally think water helps me get through the day. Without water I don’t know how I would get through classes, a sports practice, and two hours of study hall. I have recently been carrying a water bottle with me to every class, and this helps me keep my body fluids in check to avoid dehydration. My body tells me when I need to drink water, and when I have not had enough water. Next time you think you’re getting sick, or you’re tired after a long sports practice, or even a long day of classes. Water is a go to friend that will keep you going and will never let you down.
