NHL Playoffs Heat Up
With only two teams remaining, the NHL season is near its end, but headed for a climactic end.
Two teams from the West, The San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues, are battling for the Conference title. while in the Eastern Conference, the Boston Bruins have already punched their ticket to to the Stanley Cup. Game one will take place Monday, May 27 in Boston.
In the West, San Jose is up 2-1 in the best of seven series. In the east, Boston picked up a sweep over Carolina on May 16, getting them one step closer to the Cup.
The Stanley Cup final, a best of seven series, awards the higher ranked team with home ice advantage the first two games; after, the location flips, giving the other team, in this case San Jose or St. Louis, home ice advantage as well.
Senior Tim Rego is a big Bruins fan. He was thrilled they swept Carolina and is eager to see them compete for the championship. “It has been eight years since they won the Cup and it would be awesome to see them win it again,” he said.
This year will be the 115th Stanley Cup; the championship dates back to 1914.
Hunter Wilson, sophomore hockey player, loves this time of the year.
”Playoff hockey is the best hockey to watch,” he said. “It is my favorite time of the year and I can’t wait to see who comes out on top.
