Cam Jefferson, a PG from Belmont, Massachusetts, came to Williston to play hockey, but he’s not just here for ice time. He’s here to improve his academics as well.

Before choosing Williston, Cam had several choices: Northfield Mount Hermon, Proctor, and New Hampton. Cam said the campus was a major part in why he chose to come here.

“I immediately fell in love with the campus when I first visited,” he said.

Cam attended Belmont High school. He applied to only one college, Providence, and got accepted.  He mentioned that the classes were a good fit for him, and that the hockey team was very inviting, especially since they had a successful previous season. Their record last year was 12-14-2.

Another factor that influenced his decision is that he wanted to play in the NESCAC league. As a center, he hopes his time at Williston will lead to success in college.

Right now, Cam is interested in playing hockey next year at Colby College, in Waterville, Maine,  where he plans on either studying computer science or business.

Though the season is still a few months off, PG Logan Geisness already noted Cam’s hardworking qualities. “He gives 100% effort in everything, he has a big passion for the game,” Logan said. “He is genuinely a really great person.”

Cam said he thought his PG year would consist of only spending time with other PGs, but so far it hasn’t been that way.

“I sort of thought PGs would all be in the same classes and be separate from the senior class,” he said. “It is a little weird at first because you are jumping right into a senior class without being at this school. It took some time to adjust living away from home.”

Cam’s living in Conant this year, where PG and dormmate Brandon McGill told The Willistonian, “He is a nice person, hard-working and always has a smile on his face.”

Mrs. Valine is the head of the PG+1 program. She recruited 17 PG students to enroll this year at Williston.

“The main reason to why these students decided to come Williston was to boost their academic grades,” she said. “They also do athletic sports but in alphabetical order, academics comes before athletics.”
