Promposals Sweep Campus

It’s springtime at Williston, which means two things: the trees are starting to bloom, and seniors are getting down on one knee.

Williston’s annual prom is coming up and seniors are already picking and asking dates. Lots are students are also planning their “promposal,” a creative way to ask your future prom date. Promposals are usually large gestures jokingly compared to the efforts behind a marriage proposal.

Some students have already proceeded and succeeded with their promposals. Will Fokas ’17 kicked off the tradition by popping the question in the middle of girls lacrosse practice. Fokas, wearing a formal suit, ran into the middle of the practice with flowers in his hands and Frank Sinatra on the speakers. Although he tripped and fell on his face in front of the girls and boys lacrosse teams, his performance was stunning. Fokas’s charm and effort got a yes from junior Mika Sovjani.

“I felt heartbroken when I fell down,” said Fokas. “But I was exhilarated when she said yes, and it got the boys buzzin’ which made me happy.”

Mika thought differently. “I thought it was hilarious,” she said.

The planning behind this big event took some time. Fokas needed two weeks to consult with Girls Lacrosse coach Ms. Fulcher in order to plan the mid-practice event, as well as find the right day, the right clothes, music, and people to help him.

Fokas isn’t the only senior taking part in this tradition. Senior Leah Pezanowski ’17 greeted junior lacrosse player Rob Champigny on Williston’s Galibraith fields after his team’s big win. Pezanowski, with a group of friends, held up big letters spelling out “Prom?” Champigny said yes with a smile on his face.

The Williston community is very excited to see what creative promposals are in store as the spring continues.
