Senior Erik Ostberg Signs Letter of Intent
On Thursday, November 14, senior Erik Ostberg signed his letter of intent to play Division 1 baseball at the University of Hartford.
As Ostberg says, “Having the chance to play Division 1 Baseball is truly special. Not many guys get the opportunity. I have been working towards this goal every day since I started playing as a kid. I thought about college baseball constantly…and I still do. Now that I’ve been given the chance I am going to take advantage of it.”
This upcoming season will be Ostberg’s fourth at the varsity level. Last season, through 15 games, Ostberg hit .500 with two home runs and 13 RBI. His performance earned him the Cleary Division Player of the Year in the Western New England Prep Baseball League.
The Hartford Hawks compete in the American East Conference. The team finished in fifth place last season. The program has produced MLB talent, including Jeff Bagwell who was drafted by the Red Sox in 1989 and won the National League MVP award five years later.
Ostberg says that, “To be able to sign with Hartford feels incredibly rewarding…. More than anything, I am excited about getting the chance to play against the premier players and teams in the country. I really couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out and I am proud to be a Hawk.”
Early next week, senior pitcher Adam Krol and senior catcher Anthony Cruz will also be signing letters of intent to play college baseball at St. Anselms (DII) and Quinnipiac (D1), respectively. Senior Mikey Thomson will also be playing college baseball at Clark University (DIII) next season.
Williston baseball coach Matt Sawyer says, “What is most gratifying is that all of these players put team goals above their own and are great influences on their teammates. It will certainly be a senior-laden team this spring. Coach McKillop and I look forward to coaching this group as we compete against good baseball programs in the Western New England Prep Baseball League.”
