You have probably noticed the cameras set up in the Grubbs Gallery on the first floor of the Reed Center. Or you might have come across a dressed-up senior walking across campus at 9:00 a.m. on a nice sunny Sunday and wondered what he or she was up to. Or maybe, as a member of the class of 2018 yourself, you have signed up for your own mini photograph session.

As the new school year starts, seniors are busy preparing for their stunning senior portraits.

Williston’s yearbook, The Log, has been sending out emails reminding seniors to submit their senior portraits for the past two months. “We’ve probably received about 15, but I know of many others that are on the way,” said Mrs. Garrity, the Faculty Advisor for the yearbook. “The due date is October 13, so there is still time!”

There are many requirements concerning formal portraits. For instance, it has to be a professional yearbook head shot with either a solid, neutral, or non-distracting background. The complete requirements are listed under the Log tab on the Commencement page of the Williston website.

Williston also provides photography service for its students. April Eve Photography, located in South Hadley, has been working with Williston students for six years. Students can schedule online appointments and get their senior portraits taken on campus.

The Log has been published since 1902, and has become an important part of every Williston student’s senior year experience.

“I cannot speak for all students, but as for me I see the yearbook as a collection of memories that I may not have remembered otherwise,” said Caroline Channell 18′, a third-year member of the yearbook. “It is not the pictures themselves that are important; the importance is what memories the pictures provoke.”

Though it’s a mainstay of the senior year experience, The Log still manages to brings surprises to Williston every year.

“I don’t want to give too much away, but I think the best way to describe this year’s Log is that it will be more creative, ” Channell said. “We try to keep our plans under wraps because there is nothing better than seeing the surprise on everyone’s faces when we hand them out!”

Emily Wu 18′ is one of the editors for the Log this year. “Super excited for the yearbook of 2018! Since the yearbook is dedicated to seniors, the yearbook team wishes to create one of the most memorable one for our class.” Wu continued: “We had our first meeting yesterday and it went really well. A little preview of the yearbook cover: it will black this year and the texture will be different from all the yearbooks from the past!”

There are still eight months left until the class of 2018 get their yearbooks and graduation certificates. Garrity hopes the seniors really enjoy their final year at Williston.

“So often we see seniors solely focused on how to leave and get to the right next step of their education,” she said. “When the yearbook comes out they are sorry that they rushed through their senior year.”
