Walmart Yodeler Is Back with Country Hit
Listen up: Yodel Boy has made his return!
Mason Ramsey, 15, of Golconda, IL is known for his viral performance of Hank William’s “Lovesick Blues” in March, 2018. The original video, posted on YouTube and featuring 11-year-old Mason belting his heart out in front of a few casual shoppers, reached 82,046,701 views.
Mason made his return to TikTok in mid-January, featuring a video of him working behind the counter of Subway, dancing to his new song “Before I Knew It.” His viral new song, a new addition to his “Twang” album has been used to make TikToks over 61,400 times, and in just over a week since he returned, Mason has received a whopping 166.3 million views on his account.
Fans are in awe surrounding the drastic change in the level of maturity Mason has, as he is no longer a pre-teen cowboy dressed up in Walmart, yodeling, but rather a singer who recorded a hit song about “holding all the doors, holding your hand, getting off work just as fast as I can.”
Rosie Crooker, an 18 year old senior boarding student from Francestown, N.H., enjoys Mason’s new content and feels refreshed by his authenticity.
“I like watching Mason’s recent TikTok’s because it shows how much of a real person he is,” she said. “He’s 15, and working at Subway, but also he has a hit country song in the charts. I like seeing how much he’s grown up since his original viral video.”
Adeline Hume, an 18-year-old day student from Easthampton, Mass., values Mason’s ability to remain a normal teenager despite all his attention.
“I’ve seen a couple of his TikToks and I think it’s kind of nice to see like how normal of a life he lives even though he was pretty famous for a while,” she said. “It’s just like cool that he is still similar to a normal teenager.”
Fans loved Mason’s recent video featuring his pet monkey dancing along with him to his new song; the video recorded more than 10 million views on TikTok.
Tabitha Randlett, an 18-year-old boarder from San Francisco, enjoys Mason’s new hit and looks forward to watching him continue to grow.
“I really like the song, it is fun and I think that it is nice to see Mason not acting older than he is because that happens with a lot of young influencers,” she said. “He stays juvenile and fun and I think his new song really reflects that.”
Tabitha added she values Mason’s ability to remain level headed and quite unproblematic.
“I have seen his new TikToks and I am happy that he is being met with support because he seems really unproblematic, unlike a lot of other influencers.”
