Dunkin’s slogan is “America runs on Dunkin,” which could also be said about the students at Williston.
Williston students have a Dunkin’ on campus. Students go to Dunkin’ with friends and it is the best part of a lot of students’ day, allowing them to get there favorite drink.
The trip to Dunkin’ is the best part of some students days. But do people go to get food and drinks from Dunkin’, or do they go to have an extra 20 minutes with a friend?
Mina Sugiyama, a senior boarder from Tokyo, Japan, loves Dunkin’ and is an avid customer at the Easthampton location. “I go there at least twice a week,” she said.
Daryn Fox, a junior from Bermuda loves going to Dunkin’, but she prefers Starbucks. “Depending on how I’m feeling I go to Dunkin two to three times a week and mostly on Sundays. I am a big Starbucks girl so I usually go to Dunkin’ when I can’t get Starbucks, or I want something refreshing rather than plain old water.” she said.
Mina likes to get coffee at Dunkin’.
“Medium iced coffee with almond milk and caramel,” she said. “I go there for coffee.”
Daryn, however, would rather have a refresher.
“I always get a Strawberry Dragon fruit refresher with lemonade,” she said. “If I want food, I usually get a chocolate frosted donut with sprinkles. Always with sprinkles or I won’t get the donut.”
Dunkin’ opened in 1950 in Quincy, Massachusetts. It is now one other largest coffee shops in the United States. Not only is Dunkin’ in the United States, but is also known a worldwide franchise. serving millions of people coffee and donuts every day in 42 different countries.
The Dunkin’ located within campus boundaries is at 60 Union Street, in the same lot as the Pride gas station.
Massachusetts has the second most Dunkin’ location, with 1,042 franchises, right behind New York State, which has 1,431. Originally Dunkin’s name was Dunkin Donuts from 1950-2019. In 2019 the franchise decided to change the name from Dunkin Donuts to Dunkin’. The CEO of Dunkin’ said it was already used a shorthand name and most people new it as Dunkin’, so the franchise decided to change it.
Not all students at Williston have a Dunkin’ in their home town. They are only able to get it at school and take advantage of that while they are at Williston.
Daryn does not have a Dunkin’ at home in Bermuda. So she only has the chance to get Dunkin’ when she is at school.
Mina also does not have a Dunkin’ a home so she only gets to enjoy it while she’s at school.
“I only go to Dunkin when I’m at school cause there are no Dunkin’s in Japan,” Mina said.
Daryn likes to go to Dunkin’ with her friends.
“Nine times out of 10 I go to Dunkin’ because my friends are going and then by influence, I end up buying a drink. I very rarely go to Dunkin’ on my own accord and mention the idea to my friends,” she said.
Sadie Dripps, a junior day student, doesn’t love Dunkin’ and prefers to go there just to socialize.
“I would not go if my friends weren’t going. It’s such a social thing at our school,” she said. “I also feel like I have started to go less and less because originally, like freshman year, it was so much about making friends and so anytime someone woods suggest Dunkin I would say yes, but now I have started to realize that I don’t always have to say yes.”
“However, occasionally a little Dunkin doesn’t hurt,” she added.
Sadie doesn’t go to Dunkin’ that often but when she does she gets coffee.
“I usually get an iced caramel latte with oat milk. Sometimes I’ll get a refresher or like a matcha. As for food, I usually go for hash browns,” she said.
She does not go to Dunkin’ when she is home because there is other places that she likes better.
“I never go to Dunkin’ when I’m home. I’m from the south and no one there ever goes. I did recently move up north, but still I don’t go because I have a lot of other places I like more,” Sadie said.
