Williston Students Face The Cold

What most people at Williston do not know is that students come to Williston from many parts of the country and world. Some come from places where warm weather all year round is the norm, and most of these students are not fans of the cold weather. These students include Brad Budman ’16, Ray Stein ’16, and Sean Harrison ’17.

Brad Budman ‘16, a hockey player from Foothill Ranch, California, says that “I absolutely despise the cold weather and only chose to attend Williston for hockey.”

When asked if he was excited to go back home to the warmth over break he said, “100% yes”.

Ray Stein ’16 is from Miami, Florida and misses going to the beach every day. “I’m so excited to go back to Florida and lie on the beach all spring break,” she says.

Stein also notes that although she does not despise the cold like Budman does, she “gets sick of it after a month of being up here in Massachusetts.” She offers some advice to cope with the brutal winters by “drinking hot drinks all day and wearing like five layers of clothing.”

Sean Harrison ’17 hails from Nigeria and mentions, “I’m not a fan of the cold weather.” He chose to attend school in New England because although he is not a fan of the cold weather, he wanted to get a good variety in climate because back home is hot.

Harrison chose Williston because “my brother was already schooling here.” When asked if he was anxious to get back to the warmth of Nigeria over the summer he says, “To be honest I’m not really anxious to get back to the warmer weather over break because I want a mix of hot and cold days, which I get here.”

One student from a warm background who loves the cold weather is hockey player Kevin Lassman ’19.

Lassman originates from Parkland, Florida, and chose to attend prep school for “a different environment and hockey.” He noted that one of the reasons he chose Williston is because of the cold weather so that he could play pond hockey.

He is not anxious to get back to sunny south Florida because he says that “warm weather get boring all the time and he sweats a lot more.”
