Williston Welcomes Two New Strength Coaches
This January, the Williston Strength Program has two new coaches: Coach Paul and Coach Jared. Both strength coaches call Springfield College their alma mater.
Having two intelligent and knowledgeable coaches in addition to Coach Blayne, has helped the strength program at Williston immensely. While Coach Blayne had mastered the technique of multi-tasking, having Coach Paul and Coach Jared has allowed for students in the weight room to be given closer attention.
Athletic Performance is a program run by Coach Blayne at Williston. It focuses on proper weight lifting and conditioning.
Chloe Harris ’16 Williston, a member of Athletic Performance, says, “They have an awesome sense of humor and they know how to be fun and serious in the weight room at the same time.”
Harris has had major surgery on her hip, she wants to thank Coach Paul and Coach Jared for helping her to isolate her hip and making it stronger. She adds, “They really know how to pump you up and make you want to get better, especially when we are running our 9th 100 yard sprint!”
Coach Blayne feels much more relieved knowing that he can now hone in and concentrate on kids who may need the extra help or to the athletes who are injured.
Coach Blayne comments, “I can provide those kids with individualized training protocols and provide them with certain correctives they may need, while not ignoring kids who still need work on technique.”
Coach Blayne adds, “Having extra strength and conditioning coaches has also freed up some time to allow a few younger sports teams to get into the weight room and get them excited about what strength and conditioning can do for them.”
Both Coach Paul and Coach Jared are qualified in their profession. Both coaches have great knowledge of human physiology, anatomy, biomechanics, and the basis of strength and conditioning. While no one would ever contradict that Coach Blayne did an exceptional job solo for three years, he is happy to have Coach Paul and Coach Jared and hopes to see even better results in the athletes.
Coach Blayne is complimentary of our two new coaches. Coach Blayne comments, “I hope they learn of a passion for working with young adults, how important the connections they make with their athletes are, and that they realize how great it is too see kids improve.”
During his years at Springfield College, Coach Paul studied Applied Exercise and he graduated with a specialization in Strength and Conditioning. He is currently half way done with his third year as a doctoral candidate in Springfield College’s Exercise and Physiology Program.
As he continues his learning and coaching experience at Williston, he hopes to put athletes in the best position possible to perform when their sports seasons begin by coaching good form and technique in the weight room to optimize strength and conditioning gains.
“My favorite part about being a coach is when an athlete correctly adjusts technique after being coached to and maintaining that correction. The only other part I like more is when my athletes reach training and performance goals,” says Coach Paul.
An undergraduate student who also calls Springfield College his alma mater, Coach Jared is currently studying Applied Exercise Science and hopes to onto graduate school as a physical therapist.
Coach Jared is fully embracing his opportunity at Williston and comments that he has already learned so much from Coach Blayne. He hasn’t had a long history working with college athletes but, he says, “Working with athletes has the same core elements; all athletes want to become bigger, faster and stronger.
Coach Jared adds, “I hope to gain experience working with athletes as well as develop trainer to athlete relationships.”
The Williston Community is very happy to welcome Coach Paul and Coach Jared!
